New Sponsorship

The club has played its first match in a series of six games to be sponsored by Fareham's newest care home, The Fernes Care Home on Samuel Mortimore Close.

Bowls is a game enjoyed by all ages, of course, but Fareham Bowling Club's “Wednesday Friendly” programme appeals especially to older people from the community by giving them a chance to play relaxed matches with an emphasis more on the social side than the competitve.

That’s not to say that both sides don’t want to win, of course! The match on Wednesday 25th May saw Fareham host another local team Meon Valley, with the visitors coming out on top by 68 – 47.

Catherine Bezer, General Manager at The Fernes Care Home said: “It’s a delight to sponsor these matches, which not only help local people to keep active and healthy, but are an important part of the local social scene.

“I hope The Fernes Care Home will be central to community life when we open in July and events like this are a great way for our team to start making connections and getting more involved with local people and groups.”

Marieke Meijer, Home Services Advisor at The Fernes said: “Wednesday's match was great fun and I was thoroughly impressed by the skills people demonstrated out on the green! The club’s hospitality was great, and they issued an open invitation to residents at The Fernes to come along an watch a game themselves. As the days get warmer, what could be a better way for our residents to get out and enjoy some fresh air with good company?”

The Fernes Care Home is due to begin welcoming residents in July and will provide quality residential care and specialised dementia care in its Memory Lane Community.
